Research Staff Member / PhD Student wanted

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut gGmbH, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik is looking for a research staff member / PhD-Student for our Joint-Lab Photonic Quantum Technologies, which is part of the Integrated Quantum research area of Ferdinand-Braun-Institut in Berlin, Germany. The proposed PhD project will focus on the fabrication and ion beam based nanostructuring of two-dimensional (2D) van der Waals heterostructures for the low-loss transport of highly confined polaritonic modes.

Applicants are expected to hold a very good (top 20%) degree (Master or Diploma) in Physics with in-depth knowledge of electrodynamics and solid-state physics.

We are looking for a highly motivated student with strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently and good organizational skills.  Knowledge in electrodynamic modelling (Comsol, Lumerical, Matlab) or focused ion beam technologies are a plus. Good English is mandatory.

The position can be filled immediately and is initially limited to 3 years.
